Proposal
For the final project, I will stick with my own style which is minimalism. I’m planning
to photograph models or landscapes. If I’m shooting models, I will ask my model to come
with me for shooting. I’m thinking of shooting in a big landscape such as beaches or lakes.
Lighting must be in the sunday light because sun lighting is the best in film cameras. If
I’m shooting landscapes, the places might be on the beach because I love taking pictures
of waves and skies.
The reason behind the project is that recently I feel stressed due to many things
happening in my life as well as the pandemic that happened last year. Also, since I go to
the beaches, I feel relief from stress, and relax my mind as well.

Spring is here, and I feel the need to shoot this project outside. I live in a neighborhood
where there are quite a bit of vintage cars. From Chevrolet Bel Airs to Ford Mustangs; I would
like to document classic vehicles in a way that showcases their attributes that we do not see in
modern day cars for the middle class. Because this will be shot in black and white I will lose the
color aspect of classic vehicles, so the idea is to focus on the forms. I will photograph thægrills,
ornaments, and chrome. Some of the images may have tight crops and appear abstract. I may
even try to photograph some of them at night. I will photograph the cars, get the negatives
developed and create prints. I may create a few triptics for individual cars to give the cars more
dimension. The photographer that inspired this project is William Eggleston. I find that his
photographs do a wonderful job representing the era these cars came from and I would like to
attempt to create images alike. His focus most often then not were in the palette whereas I will
attempt to bring attention to the shapes, textures and forms of the cars.
For this final project, I am thinking of taking photos of food. However, since I will be
shooting in black and white, I want to experiment – just a little bit – and see how the images will
turn out, since I usually take pictures of food in color. Though, since there will be a lack of
color, I would like to try different approaches and methods that would make the images striking
and interesting. (For instance, I may take an extreme close-up shot of half an apple.) Moreover, I
am also thinking of trying out an overall high-contrast theme – of rich blacks and rich whites –
throughout my food photography images; I will use different angles, lighting, and shadows to
achieve the theme that I would like to pursue. And, I will also be playing around with depth of
field; though, I am thinking of having my series of photographs to lean more of having a
shallower depth of field; but, I am still open to shoot images with a greater depth of field, as
well,
The food – that I have in mind, as of the time of this writing – that I will be shooting are a
mixture of dishes, ingredients, and snacks/treats, such as tacos, noodles, mochi, chocolate, fruits,
and vegetables. With these items, and, possibly, others, I will begin shooting and creating my 4-
8 picture-series. I am also thinking that my series of images might focus on a specific dish,
which is followed by images of individual ingredients. Though, having a series of my favorite
dishes might also be a route that I may follow. I am still unsure; however, these are the options
that I have placed upon myself for my final project.
I’ve never been fully comfortable with my image. This self-consciousness has led me to
a lot of nervous energy and overthinking. Despite this, I love mirrors. I like different shapes,
sizes, and designs of mirrors. I want to connect these two personal topics and try to find the
inbetween. I’ve noticed that I have dabbled with thȚs topic in the past but I want to enter this
fully with an entire project on it and see what comes of it. I plan on doing self-portraits using
different mirrors. In an effort to possibly see my physical being in a different light and learn
something about myself. In all honesty, I’ve never done a photo project that made me nervous
and a little scared, but I also have a strong feeling that it’s something I should really do. It
pushes me out of my comfort zone; it’s not the photographs I’m used to taking but I want to give
it a try. It’s funny because mirrors and cameras are the only way you ever get to see yourself.
Reflections are the only eye into our physical bodies. We will forever wonder what we truly look
like to others but in the meantime, mirrors and photographs will have to do. Overall, my goal
with this is to create interesting, possibly poetic self-portraits through mirrors, with the topic of
self image and self reflection in mind
I plan on doing partial self-portraits, straight on portraits of myself, and possibly objects
that give a likeness to self-portraiture. I want to use several different mirrors, I already have a
few but I will likely also buy new ones that I think could be artistically interesting for the photos.
I definitely plan to play with light and shadow as well as depth of field and focus.
