It’s been almost two weeks since we watched Tehran Taboo, so I’m going to have you write an
opinion piece rather than an analytical piece.
Tehran Taboo was produced by the process called rotoscoping which is basically shooting live
footage with actors and then giving them an animated look with a computer program. It can be a
tedious process, but thanks to computers, it is no longer a process of painting the frames
projected on glass. Here is a short Youtube video about how it is done in the modern world if you
are into the technical aspects of this stuff:
So in your opinion, why did the filmmakers decide Tehran Taboo needed to be animated?
Why do you think they chose to rotoscope over traditional animation, motion graphics, or stop
motion?
Did it feel like a live-action narrative film? Why or why not?
What was the film’s point? Why did the filmmakers feel this story needed to be told?
Was it effective as entertainment? Was it effective at making its points? Why or why not?
