Part 2: Essay (25 points)
Some may criticize the farming game as a fruitless experience, and one that doesn’t actually
reflect the reality of the world. Obviously, you would never have a guerrilla war followed by
drought, famine, and local thieves followed by a collapse of the national banking system. Still
others might suggest that criticism comes from a place of privilege with limited experience in
the developing world, and, in fact, farming in Africa can be as volatile as the game suggests.
Who is correct? And, why?
Please construct an essay that answers these two questions using evidence from the game and
incorporating at least three external academic sources. Use Times New Roman, 1-inch margins,
with 1.5-inch spacing; an elaborate header/title is not necessary. Your name and section time
will suffice. Your essay needs to be at least two full pages. (Please print front and back so you
do not need a staple.)
Finally, please note that saying both sides are right will earn you zero points. Choose a position
and defend it.
