Down below is the guidelines of this discussion post. i just want to make sure i am able to properly give my atestment for the film; City lights (1931) by charlie chaplin. Be sure to identify the film you watched and the comedy star of the film. Be specific and provide examples with Time Stamps from specific scenes in your film. 1. Think of some way your film might reflect the society of the 1920s, literally or symbolically. Does it address the hard-working average “man” or the “American dreamer?” Does it feature some of the excitement or some of the problems and chaos of the modernizing times? Perhaps it includes a theme of a classic American value? Is there any evidence of immigration or “the new woman?” These are just some ideas. Even if your film doesn’t take place during the 1920s but in a earlier past era like the Civil War or the Alaskan Gold Rush, why might its theme resonate with people of the 1920s? and3. Think visually: Identify what you would consider an interesting visual moment in the film. (It doesn’t need to be the most exciting, the funniest, or the saddest.) What is it about this scene that you find visually interesting? How does the film maker create that interesting visual? Don’t focus only on the story but bring in elements of the film technique itself, how the comedic or dramatic moment is created, or the talent of the star, or the use of the camera, or what is going on in the background, etc. USE 3-4 TIME STAMPS to reference the points in the film you are talking about.
