Minnesota Immigration Ad #1 (1840s-1910s)
Assignment: Create an Immigration Ad for this time period, being sure to
highlight course content and any other outside research or sources that you
encounter.
Based on what you’ve read, watched, and learned, include things the Minnesota
Board of Immigration may have used to attract new settlers between the
1840s-1910s. This should be a one-page ad or smaller – think about what might
appear in a newspaper or other publication at this time.
For consistency and equitable artistic baselines, please use Canva.com for
the Immigration Ad activities. I recommend the “Flyer” or “Poster” templates,
but feel free to get creative with social media posts – keep whichever option
you choose to one (1) page in length/size.
You may use Adobe Creative Suite or similar, if you already have that software
available to you. There is no need to purchase this if you do not!
You do not need to have the Immigration Ad or News Articles match the
exact styling of the time period being discussed, i.e. typeface, grainy black &
white images, etc. However, you should include content that would be of
interest for a person of that time period and relevant to the content covered.
Essentially, focus on substance, not style.
